THE DESIGN CONCEPT
I knew from the beginning of this project, that my artistic goal was to create work that would help me learn about myself.
Diving in, the themes of my work talked about time, PTSD, and war. It was important to the director, myself, and my co-designer, that the concept of time within this show wasn’t seen as linear. This then reflected the idea of healing not being a linear process, that it is different for everyone. The concept of war itself is universal and people around the world have experienced it in different ways: on the battlefield, in their home, at school, in relationships, within themselves, etc. This show was here to let everyone tell their stories and leave the audience feeling like their own had been heard. That is what I wanted to do myself. I wanted to tell a story about my own healing and my own trauma from wars within myself and my life.
